Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

kwek is a free study tool for students, built and operated by Oblina IT Solutions. If you have any questions about this policy, you can reach us at kwek.cards@gmail.com.

2. What data we collect

We collect only what we need to provide the service:

  • Account information — your email address and display name when you sign in with Google or create an account.
  • Deck and card data — the flashcard decks and cards you create, including all text content. When you share a deck, a snapshot is stored in our database and accessible via the share link. Share links are tied to the deck's visibility — setting a deck to Private makes all its share links inaccessible until the deck is made Public or Unlisted again.
  • Uploaded images — if you add images to cards or upload a profile photo while signed in, those images are stored in Supabase Storage and are publicly accessible via a direct URL. Do not upload images that contain personal or sensitive information.
  • Usage data — AI deck generation count and AI Tutor message count (reset daily) for rate limiting purposes.
  • Study activity — basic study session data (e.g. last studied date) for streak and stats features.

We do not store payment information — billing is handled by PayMongo. We do not collect precise location or any data unrelated to the study features.

3. How we use your data

  • To authenticate you and sync your decks across devices
  • To enforce AI deck generation and AI Tutor daily rate limits
  • To provide study streak and stats features
  • To improve the app based on aggregate, anonymized usage

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. AI features and data transmitted to AI providers

kwek offers two AI features — AI Deck Generation and AI Tutor — powered primarily by Groq (with overflow fallback to OpenRouter when Groq is rate-limited). Both transmit data to the active provider's servers for processing.

AI Deck Generation

  • The topic or text you submit is sent to the AI provider and processed by an open-weight language model (currently openai/gpt-oss-120b) to generate flashcards.
  • If you upload a PDF or PowerPoint (.pptx) file, the text content is extracted on your device (or via kwek's extract API for some clients) and sent for card generation. File content is not stored by kwek — only the resulting cards are saved to your account.
  • We do not store your submitted prompts or text — only the resulting cards are saved to your account.
  • You will be shown a one-time disclosure before your first AI generation confirming that your content leaves this device.

AI Tutor

  • Each message you send (up to 500 characters) is transmitted to the AI provider along with a snapshot of your deck — including the deck name, description, and up to 40 card fronts and backs (stripped of HTML).
  • When using AI Tutor alongside an uploaded file (PDF or PPTX), excerpts of the file's text content are sent in place of deck cards to provide context for your questions.
  • kwek does not store your chat messages or conversation history on its servers. Each request is stateless — no history is retained after the session ends.
  • AI Tutor responses are scoped to the deck or document you are studying. The system prompt instructs the AI to refuse off-topic questions.

Both features

  • Providers' use of API data is governed by their policies — see OpenRouter's Privacy Policy and Groq's Privacy Policy.
  • All inputs are processed through automated content guardrails before being sent to an AI provider. Inputs designed to misuse the AI are rejected and never forwarded.
  • AI responses may be inaccurate. Always verify important information with trusted sources.

5. Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate kwek:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage. Your account, deck data, profile photos, and card images are stored on Supabase infrastructure. Images are stored in public buckets and accessible by anyone with the URL.
  • Groq — primary AI inference for deck generation and AI Tutor. Your submitted text and deck content are transmitted per session. No chat history is retained by kwek. Governed by Groq's Privacy Policy.
  • OpenRouter — overflow AI inference when Groq is unavailable or rate-limited. Governed by OpenRouter's Privacy Policy.
  • Google OAuth — optional sign-in method. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • PayMongo — payment processing for kwek² subscriptions. When you subscribe, your billing information is collected and handled directly by PayMongo. kwek does not store your card or payment details. Governed by PayMongo's Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel — app hosting and analytics. Anonymous page view data only.

6. Data retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data — including your profile, decks, and cards — is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days.

7. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the data we hold about you
  • Export your decks at any time via the export feature
  • Delete your account and all associated data from within the app
  • Contact us at kwek.cards@gmail.com for any data requests

8. Children's privacy

kwek is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via the app or by email. Continued use of kwek after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
